Hi i know there has been a lot on this but I cant find a definitive answer. I have fitted a MFD unit into 2002 TDI - got new bezel from Frauds ( had to tell bloke what it was as he hadnt heard of it! ) old one out new one in in 10 mins. All ok so far. New iso lead - power supplies wrong way round so corrected this. Done speakers, gala wire and tel mute for nokia. It all works fine except..... each time ignition turned off and on I need to put code in. It has perm 12v and ign in right place - if I swop then it stays on when ign turned off. Light switch ok. Anyone know whats going on? I have noticed that the red led light for audio security is on when system is on but not when its off as it should be. Am i missing another power or something? Any help greatly appreciated - and she may give me some peace and quiet if its sorted too.

Just done the same thing this morning fitted new bexel and SAT NAV MFD but also have the power issue when turn ignition off and turn back on asks for MFD SAFE CODE again, how can this be resolved?

Help appreciated

get hold of new bezel first - remove old one after taking out air con - no need to remove cup holders yet just open them and you can get to screw underneath. All switches just go straight into new one. wiring for mfd on body of unit or on this forum. Get a standard ISO lead and fit using existing wiring(you have to cut blocks off) :) I connected mine with bullet fastners from Halfords - my only problem is that it needs the code every time its turned on its obviously a power supply issue but cant solve it at present I dont want to risk blowing it.

Guys just reverse the switch live and permanent live and all will be resolved. Thats the way we did it.

Doesnt that mean that the unit stays on when you turn the ignition off and take the key out? Im sure it did that when I tried it. Someone suggested the pin marked s kontakt should also be +ve ?

Right, I tried it this afternoon swopped perm live with switched live. It comes up with SAFE pin not connected. Turn ignition on - put in code and it works but stays on when you turn ign off and take key out.

I have set up the power supply as follows

Earth = earth

Us = Switch +VE

SAFE= Perm +VE

Sun symbol=Light switch

S Kont= Switch +VE

K Bus= ?

Tel Mute= phone mute

Gala=Violet gala wire

The unit comes on but asks for code each time. Tried switching SAFE and Us positions but works without key on this setting and still asks for code when turned off and on. Anyone got anything different? Any ideas?

The wires that went into original block for RDS 5000 radio are

Thick red=perm +VE

Thin red/brown= Switch +VE

Thick brown=earth

blue/grey=Light switch

There is also a thin brown wire, I have no idea what this does.

I know its laborious but I thought it was the easiest way of describing my situation.

Does anyone know of another live position on back of MFD that isnt mentioned. Does not having the 26 pin connector on make any difference? Thanks

Use a multimeter and just make sure you have constant voltage on SAFE, and when ignition switched off and key removed no voltage on Kontakt, worked for us! Easy to get them wrong when key still in ignition.

Didn't you use a Ford to ISO adapter lead???? This would have been LOADS

easier than chopping the existing loom and they are only 4 quid! I used one

but had to swap the perm/switched live as these adapters are notorius for

being the wrong way round! I may be taking my unit out over the weekend

to add an AV interface let me know if your'e still having trouble and I'll

note all the feeds on the back of mine.

the unit being used is the vw sat nav with 2 iso connectors if so connect up the blue wire and the red wire which sould be next to each other on the new iso and give that 12v perm and the yellow a 12v ignition feed

job sorted i believe :)

regards steve :rolleyes:

Tried that method this afternoon and unit stays on - even with key out the ignition. Anyone got one that works as it should and doesnt mind sharing the info ? will be much appreciated.

Ok - Tried it again - red and blue to perm live and s kont to switched live. Unit is live without key but does turn off with on/off switch.

Swap powers around and different combinations and just get SAFE starting up again.

Checked diagram for unit. I have can H pin and can L pin at the end of 26 pins on rear of unit( pins 13 and 26)

well you are shafted as you have a post 2002 unit and the can bus wires ( like automotive broad band 2 wires mutipal signals) carry the ignition signal so perm power only no ignition sense (well not in the conventional way)

sorry to be bearer of ill tideings :rolleyes:

Well I never ! Red and blue to perm live and switch live to s kont. It was on all the time for a while then for some reason started working with ignition so ok so far.Thanks people..... even the little flashing red led works when it should. :D

Now all I need to do is get it to recognise where the hell I am. Im running a 2004 disc and it keeps telling me Im outside the digital network. Main A roads arent even showing up on map screen although train stations and the like are !? :(

What exactly did the sat nav unit say?

Did it say 'you are not on a digitized road'?

If it said this it means you've got a problem with the gala feed to the unit...

this is the violet wire from the loom and should go to pin 5 on the 26pin

adapter on the back of the navi unit...

it has not got a gala feed as it is fed via the can bus lead which his car aint got as it is a newer radio in an older car

i.e post 2002 radio in a pre 2002 car :(

Yes it said "Your position is not known on digitised road" !

Its a Sept 2002 model it does have the violet gala lead - ive got it on the gala input on the power iso at the moment. I will try on the other pin today as suggested and let you know how I get on. Will that make the roads appear or do you think the teleatlas dx disc is pants?

Managed to get a vw cd changer and lead from fleabay ( checked it was right one) I want to get it all together before slotting finally in place.

Regards.

Oscar it is definately because you haven't got the gala to pin 5 on the 26 pin

connector on the back of the navi unit...the gala feed into the power connector

is just to enable the gala volume adjustment of the unit. Make sure you make a good connection into the loom, this gala feed is the cause of 99% of the problems related to retro fit units!!! I take it you've got a blue 26 pin connector to wire in?

Steve...having just bought a unit 'on impluse' they are an absolute minefield!!

There are five different versions of the units and depending on the version

depends on where it gets its wheel pulse from! It can be from the abs module/can bus or gala. By the sound of it Oscar has got a newer version which will work fine with the gala feed attached to the correct pin.

+but also his is the blaupunkt vw unit not the ford unit so his car has still got speed pulse and not the can bus signal which is two twisted wires on a digital net work and not the single gala /sp signal B)
